fun classroom activities
By clicking on the Activity 1 button, you will be taken to a website that has a great hands-on lesson for your students. This lesson will leave your students wanting to play this game over and over. All you have to do is blindfold your students and hand them a 3-D shape. By using their sense of touch, they have to identify the shape. You can take it a step further by using higher order questioning and ask them what makes them think they are holding a particular shape. This lesson can be used across the curriculum with a lesson on our 5 senses.
By clicking on the Activity 2 button, you will be taken to a website that has a lot of materials shown to get your class involved in 3-D shapes. You can create an anchor chart with your students by listing and describing the various 3-D shapes. After you do this, you can incorporate the skill of sorting to sort various objects into 3-D shape groups. As a closure activity, you can have the students complete a 3-D shape paper where they will have to draw a picture and write a description of the various 3-D shapes.
Other possible Ideas and resources
- To ensure understanding, you could possibly take a walk around the school to spot 3-D shapes.
- You could also play "I spy a 3-D shape" in your classroom. This game is similar to the regular "I spy" game that we all know and love.
- As a fun home project, you could have the students create 3-D shape art. This is where they take various 3-D shapes from their home (toilet paper roll, empty cereal box, etc) and make some type of art out of it by glueing the shapes together. They can use their imagination.
